A Promenade Performance at Woodland Discovery Centre

Before the Easter break, our Senior Youth Theatre group created and shared an original promenade performance, We are Here, While Time Passes, at the Woodland Discovery Centre.

Developed collaboratively over the term, the piece invited audiences to move through the woodland environment, following a series of moments, encounters, and images shaped by the group’s devising process. Rather than a traditional stage-based performance, the work unfolded across the landscape, with the natural surroundings becoming an active part of the storytelling.

Throughout rehearsals, the group explored ideas inspired by place, time, and presence, using improvisation and experimentation to build material that responded directly to the space. The woodland setting encouraged a different kind of attention—both from performers and audience—creating a shared experience that shifted as people moved through it.

The result was a promenade performance that felt both playful and reflective, full of atmosphere and carefully observed detail. It highlighted the group’s ability to work as an ensemble, trust creative decisions, and respond to the environment around them.

As with all our Youth Theatre work, the process was just as important as the final sharing. The group showed focus, openness, and a willingness to take creative risks, resulting in a piece that was distinctive to them and rooted in collaboration.

We are incredibly proud of what they created and grateful to everyone who came to experience the work in the woods.
