“I have really enjoyed learning about not only a new technique, but learning more about my peers as well. It has been fun sharing stories and feeling like we are trusted to look after each others snippets and it has been fun bringing them to life before their eyes so they can relive special moments”

Playback Theatre is a drama technique that challenges, pushes comfort zones and develops skills. The Seniors experienced first hand just how intense learning about Playback Theatre can be, and absolutely rose to the challenge! During the Spring term, the Senior Group ventured into the different techniques of Playback, including; Pair Work, Fluid Movement, Tableaux, 3 Sentence Story, 3 Part Story and more. Each week, they allowed themselves to completely let go of insecurities and began developing a brand new bank of skills to take with them in future endeavours. The group took the utmost care in retelling an individual’s personal experiences and everyone enjoyed hearing each others stories and seeing them being brought to life in a variety of ways. As the Seniors got to grips with a new drama technique, not only did their improvising skills improve but they also became more responsive and sensitive to what was being offered. The group also loved  learning new information from one another and it was a great way for the group to bond even more.

The end of the term culminated in a fabulous evening where family and friends came to see Playback Theatre in action!  After a quick explanation and demonstration the group asked the audience to share a few stories. A couple were chosen including the most incredible story of how. someone single-handedly rescued a flock of sheep she saw floating in the sea from a Welsh beach by swimming out to them and rescuing them! The re-enactments were hilarious and had the whole audience in stitches. It was a great experience enjoyed by all.
