About Growtheatre

Growtheatre is a Community Interest Company, formed in 2012 by Rachel Newman and Sophie Hunter; they wanted to combine their love of making theatre, working with children, young people and communities and being outdoors and thus Growtheatre was born!

Communities Creating Together

Growtheatre is passionate about collaborating with local people to create work in response to the places where we live, work and play. You will find us in places like parks, local woods, community centres, libraries and working with school communities.

Our Young People Creating Original Theatre

At Growtheatre Youth Theatre we bring together theatre and being outdoors to develop the whole child. Our members are encouraged to work independently and imaginatively and to consider how the outdoor spaces might inspire them. They are given many opportunities to take ownership of the creative process and come to understand the importance of collaboration, creativity and playfulness.

Developing Creativity Through Imaginative Family Events

We think it is important that really young children have access to quality, creative experiences so we created Family Adventures that take place in most school holidays. They are ideal for children and families that love being creative and exploring outdoors.

We Collaborate with a Variety of Partners

We work with a diverse range of partners, including Sheffield Parks and Countryside, charities, libraries, schools, universities and arts organisations on a whole range of Creative Projects. We are member of Sheffield’s Local Cultural Education Partnership, Create Sheffield, where we work in partnership to improve cultural education for local young people.
